History is not a list of dates and places. It is made up of the personal stories of individuals that historians combine to create a larger narrative of the past. Our own stories, and the stories of our families are part of Jewish history. Incorporating our family’s stories into a larger scope of Jewish history helps us understand Jewish history in a very personal way.
The final project for Women in Jewish History & Culture required students to choose a woman from their past, investigate her life and create a piece of historical work on their subject. It required researching the individual herself and, using academic sources, the historical setting in which she lived.
Here are two excellent sample projects from the Spring 2021 Semester.
